Certificate Program Requirements
A total of 21 credits are needed to complete most Lebanon College certificate
programs. In
certain instances, at the suggestion of the faculty, a student may be required to
take additional courses to satisfy proficiency or prerequisite requirements.
Students may transfer up to six credits from another approved institution,
professional training, life experience, or college level examination. Lebanon College
certificate programs are usually the "major core" requirement of a degree program
and are completely transferable to our degree programs. An academic advisor will
assist students in planning their programs.
These programs consist of education in specific professional fields, without the
general coursework required for a college degree. The number of credits required
is usually 21. Up to six credits may be transferred into a Lebanon College certificate
from an outside approved source. As with the degree programs, an advisor guides the
student from beginning through graduation. All credits earned in our certificate
programs are transferable to our degree programs. Fields of study include:

Certificate in Accounting
Students will explore the fundamentals of the accounting process and develop
their interpersonal and professional skills. Students will study the bookkeeping
cycle and integrate this knowledge with computer technology and business
management. This certificate should prepare students for entry level positions and
for advanced business studies.
Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this program, the student should be able to:
- demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the fundamental disciplines - information systems, financial, cost, taxation, auditing;
- demonstrate skills and abilities relevant in providing professional accounting services in the public, private and governmental sectors of accounting working effectively in teams, and proficient use of the computer
- be aware of the needs of communities beyond the boundaries of their professional community.
Career Path
A certificate in Accounting prepares graduates for many careers in industry, public, governmental, or non-profit accounting. Graduates of the Accounting program should be prepared for entry into the accounting profession and also have the background needed to advance into management and finance positions.

Certificate in Graphic Design Provides students with a wide variety of computer technology skills which focus on graphic design and desktop publishing. Students will examine graphic design, layout, copy writing and editing techniques, and will develop a portfolio of their design and production work.

Certificate in Criminal Justice
Program Information:
The Certificate in Criminal Justice is designed for students who are seeking employment in the law enforcement field or wish to transfer to a four-year school and complete a bachelor's degree in criminal justice or law enforcement. The Criminal Justice degree plan is broadly interdisciplinary in nature, embracing the study of the humanities, law and the behavioral and social sciences. The curriculum seeks to balance theoretical inquiry with applied knowledge.
On a nationwide basis the job market is excellent for people interested in law enforcement or criminal justice.
Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this program, the student should be able to:
- demonstrate an understanding of the American Criminal Justice system and the working of the various local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies;
- demonstrate an understanding of the rules, principles, and doctrines of criminal law and apply these to the commencement of criminal proceedings, prosecution and defense of charges, sentencing and appeal;
- demonstrate an understanding of investigative procedures for the collection of data in case preparation;
- demonstrate an understanding of structures and functions of American courts, the roles of attorneys, judges, and other personnel, and the development of corrections philosophy, theory, and practice;
- utilize the knowledge and apply critical analytical skills acquired in the social sciences in preparation for continuance of education.

Certificate in Early Childhood Education
A certificate in early childhood education trains professionals for work with children below the typical school age, usually children between 3 and 5. The curriculum in this educational track includes child psychology, parenting, and early learning strategies. Most professionals in this field work in elementary or pre-schools. This program is designed to prepare the student to work in several child care or early elementary school environments. The state requires a child care certification to work in a day care center, nursery school, pre-school or private home day care. Many public schools now require aides, substitute teachers, and Para-professionals to have at least an Associates Degree. Areas covered are the special needs student, social problems, psychology and the developmental stages of pre-school, early elementary and mid-elementary students.

Upon completion of this program, the student should be able to:
- demonstrate understanding of the theories of early childhood education that supports the development of young children and to gain skills in the practical application of these theories in the classroom;

Certificate in 3-D Medical Imaging
The 3D medical imaging certificate program offered at the College is designed to give the successful student those skills. Anatomy and
physiology in two semesters, cross-sectional anatomy, medical terminology and introduction to medical imaging are the core courses. Choose from pathology, vascular surgery, regulations or Linux to complete 22 credits and to complete the requirements for the certificate.
Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this program, the student should be able to:
- conceive systems for which the clinical value is well defined;
- develop generic tools that can be applied to many different clinical applications;
- provide efficient collaboration between the surgeon and the system through simple interfaces
- solve responsibility issues when taking decisions based on data analysis results;
- allow a user intervention when the automated processing is inaccurate or erroneous.

Certificate in Medical Coding
The Professional Medical Coding course available through Lebanon College pairs certified instructors who currently work in the Medical Coding field with a local college that has strong ties to the medical community. The curriculum used in this course was developed by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). Students will receive classroom instruction, participate in workgroups, and apply newly gained knowledge to real coding scenarios.
After completing the Professional Medical Coding course, students may choose to sit for the nationally recognized Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification.
What do graduates of the program do?
A certificate in medical coding will pave the way into the high demand field of health care. Though computer programs are taking the job that many billing clerks used to do, there is still a need for these professionals. Most billing clerks are responsible for compiling and keeping track of patient invoices and then mailing them out to customers.
What is the job outlook for graduates?
Opportunities for certified coders exist in physician offices, hospitals, insurance companies, laboratories, legal offices, educational settings, governmental agencies, military hospitals, consulting firms, billing companies, etc.
Student Learning Outcomes:
Students who successfully complete this program should have working knowledge of:
- Medical terminology and patient clinical record content.

- Health care delivery systems, regulations, and political reform.
- CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-9-CM coding systems, common coding errors, and their impact on claims processing.

Certificate in Medical Transcription
The Medical Transcription Program at Lebanon College will prepare the student for entry-level employment as a medical transcriptionist by providing the basic knowledge, understanding, and skills required to transcribe medical dictation with accuracy, clarity, and timeliness, applying the principles of professional and ethical conduct. [This curriculum conforms to the Model Curriculum for Medical TranscriptionTM as recommended by the Competency Profile for medical transcriptionists.
What do graduates of the program do?
MTs are specialists in medical language and healthcare documentation that interpret and transcribe dictation by healthcare professionals regarding patient assessment, workup, therapeutic procedures, clinical course, diagnosis, prognosis, etc., editing dictated material for grammar and clarity as necessary and appropriate.
What is the job outlook for graduates?
MTs work in hospitals, clinics, physicians' offices, transcription services, insurance companies, home healthcare agencies, and other locations where dictation for the purpose of healthcare documentation requires transcription. Many skilled MTs work in their homes as independent contractors, subcontractors, or home-based employees.
Certificate Program Requirements
Certificate program in Medical Transcription is designed to provide education to students that will enable them to introduce and enhance their knowledge and skills, to better perform their job.
Prerequisites:
As demonstrated by exam:
- Minimum typing speed of 40-45 corrected words per minute.
- English usage competency to that of a high-school graduate.
- Spelling competency equivalent to that of a high-school graduate.
- Listening Skills.
- Normal level of audiometric acuity.
- Ability to listen with comprehension at high-school graduate level.
If the above competencies are not met, then a remedial course would be required.

Medical Secretary Certificate
Medical secretary is one of the fastest growing occupations. Career opportunities are best for those with formal training in the use of computerized office equipment and software as well as excellent interpersonal communication skills. This program provides educational opportunities for those interested in working as a medical secretary in single or multi-physician practices or large healthcare and allied health organizations. In addition to administrative skills, medical secretary students receive specialized training in medical terminology, anatomy, medical transcription, medical billing and word processing.
This program helps prepare students as front desk or scheduling secretary at hospital or clinical setting. Students learn how to write the reports, think critically, communicate to patients effectively, medical terminology, basic anatomy and physiology and involves a ninety hours of internship in a clinical setting. These skills are required to understand the health care system and work effectively as the liaison between the doctor and patient.

Job titles can vary; however, jobs are plentiful. These programs offer Para-educators whose duties include instructional support and who work in a program supported with Title I-A funds to meet the NCLB educational requirement through one of the following:
- Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education;

- Obtained an associate's (or higher) degree; or
- Met a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate, through

Paraprofessional is an employee who provides instructional support in a program supported with Title I, Part A funds. This includes paraprofessionals who provide one-on-one tutoring, assist with classroom management, provide instructional assistance in a computer laboratory, conduct parental involvement activities, provide support in a library or media center, act as a translator, or provide instructional support services under the direct supervision of a teacher [Title I, section 1119(g)(2)].

Certificate in Photography
The Photography Program at Lebanon College is designed to teach students the skills and talents required for a rewarding professional photographic career. From day one hands-on instruction and practice provide the technical expertise which forms the foundation of future work. Through concentrated experience in the studio, students can learn how to manipulate and control lighting and exposures, compose people and still life compositions and produce images on a variety of film and digital formats.
This program provides students with increased skill in composing, shooting, and printing color and black and white photographs. Students develop a portfolio of their original photographs.

Upon completion of this program, the student should be able to:
- use the visual arts as a means of communications, they will learn to master the tool of the medium, both traditional and contemporary, to clearly articulate the message they wish to convey;
- analyze their own interests to find a direction to their photography, to learn what it is they want to say;
