Goals and Competencies
The purpose and goals of any higher education is the attainment of knowledge
through a disciplined learning process. Lebanon College is no exception. The
College prepares its students by means of a program that balances the liberal
arts with the more practical needs dictated by the world in which we live.
Lebanon College is committed to keeping up with the endless changes in education,
technology, and our society.
An educated person fosters educational growth, social responsibility, personal
and professional enrichment, critical thought and creative expression. An
educated person is one committed to the process of lifelong learning that is
always curious about the world and knows how to fulfill that curiosity. Aware
of their own learning styles, educated persons integrate these styles with
opportunities for their personal and professional growth.
The educated person understands important concepts in the humanities, social
sciences and arts, and applies these to everyday life. This person is engaged
in their community, utilizing critical thinking and problem solving skills to
identify and address ethical dilemmas and issues.
Lebanon College has designed its degree core requirements to foster the skill
of an educated person. These courses provide a foundation for skills that are
developed more fully in each program:
- Literature and Writing

Students will have an introductory comprehension of certain fundamental
areas of human understanding and intellectual inquiry and will have been
encouraged to develop a sense of how diverse educational pursuits relate to one
another.
