Academic Information

Student Handbook, Forms and Applications

Academic Year

The College’s academic year is comprised of three, fifteen-week terms, beginning in September, January and May. A student who is matriculated[1] in a program and registers for 12 or more credits per term is considered full-time. It normally takes a full-time student six terms to complete an associate degree program, and 3 terms to complete a certificate program. A student who is matriculated and registers for 6 to 11 credits per term is considered half-time; less then 6 credits per term is considered part-time.

 Each term typically begins on:

  • Fall Term: 2nd Monday in September
  • Spring Term: 2nd Monday in January
  • Summer Term: 2nd Monday in May

Advising

Degree or Certificate programs at Lebanon College may be completed on a full-time or part-time basis. An advisor assists each matriculated student with educational decisions, providing a smooth transition into a program. Students are encouraged to seek advice from their assigned advisors, their professors, and the Deans' Office.

Attendance

The College expects students to attend all classes. Students who are not part of an academic program at the college need to follow the requirements for attendance as determined by the individual instructor and stated in the course syllabus.

Credit Hour

A credit hour is defined as the following:

  • 1 lecture credit hour is equivalent to 15 contact hours
  • 1 lab credit hour is equivalent to 30 contact hours
  • 1 internship credit hour is equivalent to 45 contact hours

Course Levels & Numbering
  • 000 series numbers – non-credit or special interests
  • 100 - 300 series numbers – are based on content and level of course difficulty (may not reflect a gradual progression in coursework)
  • 400 series numbers – advanced topics
Auditing Courses

There is no credit awarded for audited courses, and these courses do not count toward graduation or other requirements. Tuition is eighty percent of credit courses. Audited courses may not be repeated for credit but may be used as a refresher for students. Faculty permission is required to audit a course, and the form is available from the Registrar’s office.

Holidays

Lebanon College offices and classes observe all major national holidays, including Christmas, New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, and Thanksgiving. Courses may be held on other holidays. Call the Registrar’s Office for information.

Class Cancellations

If a class is cancelled for any reason, the instructor or College administration will contact students by phone or email (please make sure your contact information on file is correct).  In the case of adverse weather, the student should use his or her own best judgment concerning driving conditions. Notice of cancellation is also available by calling the College and local radio stations.

Graduation

Lebanon College holds its graduation ceremony the first Saturday in June. A student with enough credit hours to graduate will receive a “Petition to Graduate” form from the Registrar’s Office. This form must be completed and submitted to your advisor and the Academic Dean prior to April 30th of the graduation year along with the appropriate fee. All other responsibilities, including tuition and academic fees must be successfully completed before a student can graduate.  A student who has two or fewer courses remaining to complete a program and is registered for the Summer Term, can still participate in the graduation ceremony.  In order to graduate from a program, the student must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0, and at least a 2.0 in each major core course.
